Engaging with the unengaged

A study into improving engagement through targeted outdoor education in Stoke-on-Trent.

Not everyone is suited to a learning environment that is purely classroom-based, yet this is where most of the education takes place, but there is a world beyond the traditional classroom. A recent study by Great Grounds and Keele University demonstrates the positive impact taking learning out into nature can have on pupils, seeing an improvement in pupil progress, engagement and surprisingly, self-confidence. Horticulture and landscaping is perhaps the easiest subject to build into this and can so very easily be embedded into the school curriculum. So come on schools, wake up and see the value of this!
