T Level – Agriculture, land management and production

The T Level in Agriculture, Land Management and Production is a Level 3 technical qualification designed for learners who want to progress into careers or further study in agriculture, horticulture, landscaping, land management or related fields. It combines classroom-based learning with a mandatory industry placement to ensure students gain real-world experience.

The qualification offers several occupational specialisms such as ornamental horticulture & landscaping, crop production, tree & woodland management, livestock, land-based engineering and floristry. 

This course is only available for those aged between 16 and 19 

Skills & Knowledge You Will Gain

  • Core agricultural, environmental and land management knowledge: sustainability, biosecurity, climate change, environmental law, health & safety, supply chains, business & project management.
  • Technical skills in your chosen occupational specialism: e.g. for horticulture/landscaping, tree & woodland or crop production, you learn planting, pruning, propagation, arboriculture, soil management, machinery operations, surveying and maintenance.
  • Practical ability to apply classroom theory to real workplaces through projects, tasks and the industry placement.
  • Transferable skills in English, maths, digital literacy and communication are integrated into the programme.

Time / Workload

  • Typically 2 years in duration.
  • Industry placement: 315 hours (approx. 45 days) minimum.
  • Classroom and workshop time predominate in the TQ, with the schedule striking a balance between theory and vocational practice.
  • Learners without GCSE Grade 4 in English & maths must continue working towards them during the course.

Course Details

  • The qualification is divided into a common core, a core pathway, plus an occupational specialism.
  • The common core covers cross-cutting topics: health & safety, environmental science, business, sustainability and sector fundamentals.
  • Core pathway aligns learners to an agriculture/land-based context (crop/woodland/horticulture).
  • Occupational specialism(s): learners choose at least one. The available specialisms include Ornamental & Environmental Horticulture & Landscaping, Tree & Woodland Management, Crop Production, Floristry, Land-based Engineering, and Livestock Production.
  • Students complete a technical qualification (classroom + assessments), industry placement (minimum 315 hours / approx. 45 days), alongside integrated maths, English & digital.

Assessment involves external exams, an employer-set project, and the occupational specialism assessment.
