Chainsaws look cool. They’re powerful, fast, and easy to buy — you can pick one up in the supermarket, online, or at a DIY store. But here’s the catch: a chainsaw isn’t just another garden gadget. It’s a serious bit of kit that can do real damage if you don’t know what you’re doing.
That’s why Lantra, the leading organisation for training and skills in the land-based and environment sector, has launched a new campaign called Respect the Chainsaw. The message is simple: get the right training, wear the right gear, and stay out of A&E.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
Over the last 10 years, more than 3,000 people across England, Wales and Scotland have ended up in A&E with chainsaw injuries. And since 2020, that number’s been rising fast. Most of these accidents could have been prevented with the proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and a bit of training.
Respect the Chainsaw
Lantra’s new campaign is here to bust the myths and keep you safe. Whether you’re cutting logs at home or starting out in forestry, learning how to handle a chainsaw properly isn’t optional — it’s essential.
