Provender Nurseries supports RHS Young Designer of the Year at RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park

Winning a Gold medal, RHS Young Designer of the Year and Best Constructed Show Garden, Freddie Strickland has swept the board at RHS Tatton Show this year with the support of Provender Nurseries for his first ever show garden ‘On Tropic’.

Working closely together, Provender Nurseries supplied many of the main feature and backbone plants for ‘On Tropic’.  The garden is designed to show the impact climate change has on plant choice.  The garden is designed to represent a subtropical garden that would typically be found in Devon and Cornwall.

The plants were selected at Provender Nurseries 18- acre nursery based in Kent and grown on in their growing facility nearby.

Freddie’s plant selection included some excellent foliage plants for drama and boldness including main structural plants, Broussonetia papyrifera Golden Shadow, Tetrapanax papyrifera, Astelia, Cyathea cooperii and mounds of Pittosporum tobira Nanum in differing sizes.

Towers of Toona sinensis Flamingo provide height and are shielded by the foliage of the Fargesia in the foreground.  Supporting the foliage selection, a range of flowering Agapanthus, Hemerocallis and Salvia guaranitica Black and Blue provide added interest.

Building the garden is Matt James of Matt James Landscape and Design, a customer of Provender Nurseries who regularly travels from Truro, Cornwall to Kent to select plants for his projects in Devon and Cornwall.
